Orlegi Sports and Entertainment initiates unity campaign #BelieveInPaz
Mexico-based club ownership group seeks to unite international communities through social media campaign, highlighting peace and inclusion amid violence in recent attacks in the United States
Mexico City, Mexico, August 8, 2019 - Orlegi Sports and Entertainment - owners of first division Mexican soccer clubs Santos Laguna and Atlas Fútbol Club, and Ascenso MX team TM Futbol Club - has called for unity in the wake of a series of violent events in the United States, inviting the public to join in the use of the hashtag #BelieveInPaz.
The Mexico City-based company and its clubs, through their respective social responsibility platforms, have practiced a long-standing methodology promoting inclusion of all human beings regardless of race, orientation, or disability, looking to use soccer as a vehicle to unite.
Such initiatives are part of a regular program unique to each club and have seen increased impact in the United States since 2015, where teams have several supporters and play international friendlies each year.
Orlegi CEO Alfonso Villalva said: “With recent events in the United States - where we have significant relationships with fans, journalists, business people and friends - we reiterate our invitation to everyone to reflect and promote unity and inclusion.”
Villalva, who served as Board Chair of United Way Mexico for five years, says the company's relationship with the global non-profit has played a fundamental role.
"With the help of our partners United Way, Corazón Latino, and other institutions and NGOs, we have been able to promote this important message. We invite other teams, fans, and members of the media business and community-at-large to join us in solidarity and start a new conversation to bring change towards peace, kindness and harmony.”
